Security risk intelligence software and cloud solutions provider Rapid7 has announced updates to Metasploit, Mobilisafe and Nexpose in an effort to enhance its risk assessment and management portfolio.

So let’s take a look at what’s new in each of the products.

The company has introduced MetaModules to Metasploit Pro 4.7. The new modules are designed to automate common, yet sophisticated, security tests, allowing security departments to carry out the task more efficiently, even if they’re under-resourced.

Metasploit 4.7 includes six MetaModules for security controls and pentesting.

As far as Mobilisafe is concerned, the solution has been enhanced with the introduction of Mobilisafe AppSentinel. Mobilisafe AppSentinel allows IT security departments to assess the risk associated with the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend, and manage that risk and related policies via a single console.

Mobilisafe inventories all the apps installed on mobile devices and flags them if they’re not on the official Android and iOS application stores.

The latest version of the vulnerability management software Nexpose can be utilized to verify if the remediation strategies set in place are actually reducing the risks.

The new vulnerability trend reports integrated into Nexpose 5.7 reveal discovered vulnerabilities, their age, security levels, and exploit and malware kit exposures.

In addition, Rapid7 has also improved the workflow for common tasks to enhance user productivity.

“Information security professionals face a huge, unrelenting challenge, and all-too-often they are under-resourced and tasked to wear multiple hats,” commented Lee Weiner, senior vice president of products and engineering at Rapid7.

“Our goal is to make their lives easier, delivering efficiency around common tasks to maximize their productivity, and giving them the visibility they need into what’s really working and what needs attention.”

The latest versions of Metasploit and Mobilisafe are available effective immediately. Nexpose 5.7 will become available later this month.
