The appliance analyzes all network traffic in search for threats

RandomStorm, an IT security firm that provides network vulnerability management and compliance solutions, has launched the latest version of StormProbe, a network intrusion detection system (NIDS).

StormProbe is designed to analyze all network traffic in an effort to identify any potential threats, allowing IT managers to view a graphical representation of their network’s status in real time.

The new NIDS uses RandomStorm’s Instances, Events and Alerts (IEA) algorithm to handle potential threats.

The algorithm allows organizations to get a better view of which hosts are targeted, and the nature and severity of the attack. The sooner an IT team can obtain this information, the faster they can apply remediation steps.

StormProbe comes with an easy-to-use management interface that shows users a classification of the threats based on their lever of security.

IT admins can use StormProbe to analyze cyberattacks and even suspicious activities. For instance, they can learn information about a piece of malware’s type, the start of the infection, its source, duration, and the IP addresses of the targeted hosts.

The solution generates static, dynamic and custom reports, including ones needed by companies to meet Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements.

The product is offered as a dedicated appliance and it integrates with StormCore, RandomStorm’s security management user interface.

“The latest security guidelines, such as PCI DSS 3.0, recognise that there are far too many security threats and log events for humans to monitor and that organisations need to focus their efforts on rapidly detecting and responding to network activity that indicates a security breach,” said Andrew Mason, co-founder and technical director of RandomStorm.

“Using automated systems that are constantly updated with information on new threats, organisations can filter out the noise and stay alert to attacks on their most important assets.”
