With the Overlord and his minions

After receiving favorable reviews on both the PC and the Microsoft Xbox 360, Overlord is now setting its sights on the conquest of the PlayStation 3 player base. And it seems that the evil simulating role-playing game that crossed over with a basic real time strategy might achieve the same success on the Sony gaming console.

Overlord's concept is very interesting, in that it turns an already established videogame convention upside down and then plays upon the inevitable chaos. Most of the games out there put the player in the role of the good guy, the one that's out to save humanity, or Earth or something else of extreme importance. Sure, you might be ironic, or toughened in battle, or a macho but, at the core, the "basic" central character has to be good. Of course, there are some role playing games that offer the player the possibility to create a character that could be either bad or good, either lawful or chaotic; and then, there are games where the choices you make in the game influence your level of goodness or badness but, so far, no other mainstream game has attempted to put the player solidly in the spiked boots of one clearly-defined evil doer. Well, Overlord does it.

This way, you get to experience the hard work that being evil implies. You need to get your (dark, of course) keep back in order after some "barbarian" heroes looted it. You need to take care of your minions and provide them with things to attack, while also aiding them from the background with spells. You need to address the needs of pesky humans and battle those good, good forces of Light. Hard work, I'm telling you, and rarely do you get a moment to stomp around with your huge axes and cause some mayhem.

The Overlord version that will be available on the PS3 is one that incorporates all the additional content that Xbox 360 and PC users have been enjoying up until now. It seems that the game will be available sometime in fall.
