The team is evaluating how much of Patriots can be salvaged

Ubisoft surprised many gamers by announcing that it was no longer for Rainbow Six: Patriots, and that the new game in the Tom Clancy-inspired series was called Siege, but it seems that some elements of the older experience might be used for the new one.

Oliver Couture, who is a technical artist at the company, states while speaking to Rock, Paper, Shotgun that “We know that single-player is also an important part of the Rainbow Six experience. We understand that while this year we showed multiplayer – because we want to have fun playing against each other internally, it’s a good test to know if a game is fun – but we are 100 percent aware that single-player is a big part.”

Patriots was designed to focus on a small number of operatives from the special forces, who had to deal with a new high-profile terrorist threat against the United States that aimed to attack a number of civilian targets to force a retreat from all overseas operations.

The trailer for the game that Ubisoft created focused on emotion and on the burden that was placed on the player when it came to making choices about the operations he was involved in and to deal with the consequences of his actions.

The newly revealed Rainbow Six: Siege experience was shown during E3 2014 with a focus on the multiplayer element, but it seems that some form of single player will be included on launch.

Couture adds, “The scope of the single-player is not completely clear yet, so I cannot really elaborate on it. All I know is that the message we have on the production floor is like, ‘All the comments online, people are always talking about single-player. So we’re gonna have something for them.’ But I can’t say if it will be more cinematic yet.”

The main selling point for Siege at the moment is the destructible environment, which makes it more complicated for gamers to plan and then execute the operations required to stop the terrorists.

The Rainbow Six series was originally known for the focus on realism, tactics that law enforcement agencies actually use, and difficulty, and the development team at Ubisoft says that all these elements will be represented in the upcoming title.

Rainbow Six: Siege will be launched at some point in 2015 on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, and the Xbox One from Microsoft.
