Players should expect a lot of sieges in the multiplayer

Ubisoft confirms that the upcoming Rainbow Six: Siege tactical first-person shooter is going to feature just 5v5 modes as well as a variety of intense situations designed to encourage teamwork and split-second decisions.

The Rainbow Six series has been around for quite some time but in recent years it's been put into a cone of shadow by Ubisoft, as the large publisher revealed a long time ago Rainbow Six: Patriots and then apparently pulled the plug on the whole thing.

Back at E3 2014, Ubisoft presented Rainbow Six: Siege, which promises to deliver an intense multiplayer experience that focuses more on the actual operations than on their story premise.

Siege features 5v5 battles

Now, the title has received some more details from Game Designer Andrew Witts, who tells IGN that there will only be game modes that pit two teams of five players against each other. According to the developer's experience, this strategy was found to promote the best teamwork when playing as attackers as well as defenders.

"After extensive testing we found that 5v5 works best in terms of giving players a tight teamplay experience where communication and cooperation is vital to success on both attack and defense," he explains.

Expect intense situations

Ubisoft also mentions that each game mode will focus on intense situations that put players in various attack and defense sequences, although it might not only be about hostage situations, like they were portrayed back at E3 2014 last summer.

"Each of the operation the players will be facing are 'sieges' situations where two sides are confronting each other; attackers are trying to breach and overwhelm the defenders who are trying to hold it off by laying fortifications and traps and creating an impenetrable stronghold," he adds.

As of yet, however, it's still unclear when Rainbow Six: Siege might be released, although Ubisoft mentioned last year that it would appear across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It's also a mystery if it's going to include any sort of single-player story campaign.
