Ubisoft, after many rumors and intense speculation, has finally revealed the new Rainbow Six: Patriots title, the next installment in its very successful tactical first person shooter series, which takes the franchise into a new direction, pitting Team Rainbow against a group called the True Patriots, that want to enact terrorist attacks across the U.S.

The Rainbow Six series has been quite profitable for Ubisoft and pretty popular among its fans, despite the fact that more recent games, Vegas and Vegas 2, haven't exactly been breakout hits.

Still, many were extremely excited when rumors that a new Rainbow Six game was in the works at the French company. Despite quite a lot of details leaking out in recent months, Ubisoft made no official announcement about the series.

Now, however, things have changed, and the company revealed that a new installment in the franchise is being worked upon by Ubisoft Montreal, alongside Ubisoft Toronto and Red Storm, called Rainbow Six: Patriots.

While Team Rainbow usually fought against terrorists from all over the world, Patriots takes it into a "bold new direction", with the counter-terrorist squad going against a domestic group called the "True Patriots", who want to spark a revolution against the corrupt U.S. government.

"In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, Team Rainbow faces a new and very real threat called the “True Patriots,” a highly-trained, well-organized revolutionary group that claim the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests," Ubisoft revealed. "The True Patriots will do whatever it takes to reclaim their country. Playing as Team Rainbow, players will face critical scenarios that will require them to make tough ethical decisions in order to stop this new breed of terrorists."

Patriots will deliver a "dynamic single-player storyline that captures the reality of modern-day terrorism and allows players to experience it from multiple characters’ perspectives." Besides the single-player mode, the game also includes cooperative and multiplayer experiences that reward players for working as a team and communicating with one another before taking down the enemy.

Rainbow Six: Patriots is scheduled to appear for the PC, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 in 2013.
