Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon is an economic simulation and computer strategy game. There are four versions: the original Railroad Tycoon (1990), Railroad Tycoon II (1998), Railroad Tycoon 3 (2003) and Sid Meier's Railroads! (2006). Railroad Tycoon was written by game designer Sid Meier and published by MicroProse and though it shares the "Tycoon" suffix, it is entirely unrelated to other Microprose games such as RollerCoaster Tycoon and Transport Tycoon, which were developed by British programmer Chris Sawyer.
A sequel featuring improved graphics and more complex gameplay, Railroad Tycoon II, was published by Gathering of Developers in 1998 after PopTop Software acquired rights to the name. Some features of the first version are missing in this sequel: ability to build tunnels and lack of Signal Towers.

Easter Eggs
Sleeping Man Load up the classical campaign mission menu. The old man should start to speak to you. Once he is finished, don't touch anything. After a few minutes he will go to sleep. He will keep on snoring until you move the mouse or press the keyboard. Then he will wake up and tell you to pick a campaign.
Glitches
Free Electric track First, build a strip of double track and then switch to electrical track, double/single, it does not matter. Now, place the cursor over the Left and upper most section of track and build downwards and it should be free and work properly.
Single track- Passing trains To make trains pass on a single track, make sure that the track is on a steep hill. The trains will zoom through each other without slowing down.
Here's the game's intro, it's not much, but it has a certain old-school flavor:
