Once Schumacher announced his retirement following the Italian GP, Kimi Raikkonen's future in Formula One is much clearer. And I guess it was all too obvious that the Fin will sign for Ferrari, since Kimi refused to make an official statement concerning his future team, before Schumacher decided to announce his.

Soon after the 7-time world champ made his retirement official, the Italian team appointed Kimi Raikkonen
as his future replacement. The Finn will join Felipe Massa as future partner and will become the no 1 driver for the next season.

"After Michael told us he was thinking about leaving the sport, we looked at all the drivers who we thought represented the biggest potential. Kimi was the driver we thought would be the best person that fitted the bill and we're very happy to be gaining him in our team next season", said Ferrari's technical director, Ross Brown.

The move was becoming even more obvious since the Finn allegedly signed a pre-agreement with the Italian team earlier in the season. Renault withdrew from the "signing the Finn" race, and Briattore confirmed it because of his high pre-agreement fee with Ferrari.

"I expected it to happen already, but you never know what will happen and hopefully we can do it next year. I wanted to go there one day, this was the best moment, and there will be people I miss at McLaren but that is the way it goes", said Raikkonen after officially becoming the 2007 Ferrari driver.

It is yet unknown on what period of time the 26-year old signed the Ferrari deal. Still, considering the Italians' policy on 1st drivers, Raikkonen is believed to have signed at least a 2-year contract.
