John Carmack, the leader of famous developer id Software, has confirmed that the long-awaited mod tools for Rage, one of the studio’s recent titles, will be released “real soon.”

Rage came out last year and was supposed to herald a glorious start for a new franchise made by id Software. Sadly, it wasn’t exactly so, as major problems on the PC plus a lackluster release on consoles complicated things.

Throw in the fact that id promised it was going to release special mod tools for the game so that PC users could tinker with it, and the studio had its work cut out.

Now, after plenty of delays, id’s John Carmack confirmed, via his Twitter account, that the mod tools would be released soon, while apologizing for the delay.

"BFG work pushed the Rage tools, but Real Soon Now,” Carmack said. “I hope. Sigh. I think we have made poor decisions on this all year."
