Cage tries his hand at “Taken,” with some Russian mobsters on the side

Nicolas Cage must still be paying off those IRS debts because he’s still making very questionable movie choices. Initially called “Tokarev” and retitled “Rage,” his latest flick has finally gotten an official first trailer.

You can see it in full and in HD below. The cutting and the music are so well used that, if you don’t pay too close attention to the action, you might actually be tricked into thinking this was a good action movie. Or, you know, an original idea.

Instead, it’s just a slight variation on the idea behind Liam Neeson’s “Taken,” with Cage playing a reformed criminal (and apparently irresponsible dad for leaving his teenage daughter with two boys alone at the house) who is forced to go back to his wicked ways.

His daughter (Aubrey Peeples) is kidnapped by the Russian mafia, presumably by guys whom he ticked off when he decided to go on the straight and narrow. Danny Glover is also starring as the voice of wisdom, warning Cage’s character to let police do their job in finding the girl.

Clearly, he won’t pay his warning any mind and will seek “his own brand of justice,” as per a brief synopsis. “Rage” will drop on Video On Demand on June 10 and in select theaters one month later.
