Wireless operator uses green-dyed iPhone 5 for marketing

A new portion of the now-retracted China Telecom advert confirming the existence of the iPhone 5C is getting some attention for its substantially different depiction of the smartphone in question.

It isn’t clear why China Telecom preferred to use a green-dyed iPhone 5 to market the iPhone 5C, when the entire world knows the phone looks nothing like that. What we’re looking at here is not the iPhone 5C.

According to dozens (if not hundreds) of leaks in the past few months, the iPhone 5C is a plastic-encased phone that takes design cues from the iPhone 3GS and the latest iPod touch players.

If China Telecom knows something we don’t, we might be in for a surprise next week. But I’m betting their marketing guys (or whoever posted that mediocre ad) are getting the facts wrong.
