As we are getting closer to NVIDIA's NVISION event, rumors of new high-performance GeForce graphics cards gradually gain more ground. Moreover, this month, the entire industry is all eyes on AMD, which will finally reveal its latest high-end Radeon, also known as the Spartan. And this is how rumors of a 55nm GT200 chip, due to arrive after AMD's card, have come into being.
Surely, most computer enthusiasts out there know that NVIDIA is currently in the final preparation stage for the NVISION event, which is held between the 25 and 27 of August, and that will include personalities such as astronaut Buzz Aldrin, actress and model Tricia Helfer, and TV celebrities and scientists, Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage. It is then that we could also see the first working model of NVIDIA's next-generation 55nm GT200-based graphics card. Despite the fact that details are yet too few to help us have a better understanding of what the new card will bring to the table, rumors claim that it will be slightly faster than AMD's dual-GPU HD 4870 X2.
Furthermore, next week is also the highly anticipated moment when AMD will unveil its latest flagship Radeon graphics card, said to provide 2GB of GDDR5 memory. Equipped with two of the company's HD 4870 graphics processors, the new card should bring about an impressive performance boost, compared with NVIDIA's current 65 GT200-based GTX 280. A 1GB version is also expected to be released, but that is yet to be confirmed.
From the looks of things, NVIDIA is playing the waiting game, seemingly lying in wait to find out what AMD's dual-GPU graphics monster is capable of, and thus learning for certain whether its own 55nm GT200 card can make for a suitable competitor to it.
Overall, this should be quite an interesting month, especially for us, regular consumers, as we'll get to reap the fruits of this competition between AMD and NVIDIA, whose sole aim is that of releasing on the market the best high-performance graphics card.
