Hoax messages that claim different online companies are about to charge consumers for services that up until now were completely free are not uncommon. The latest scam message alerts McDonald’s customers that “African-Americans” are required to pay an additional fee of $1.5 (1 EUR) per transaction due to a large number of robberies.

Hoax Slayer informs that the phony campaign is not new, but it recently began making rounds again on social networks and email inboxes.

“As an insurance measure due in part to a recent string of robberies, African-American customers are now required to pay an additional fee of $1.50 per transaction,” reads the phony message.

McDonald’s released an official statement regarding the hoax and the picture that accompanies it to deny any involvement.

Users are advised not to forward these messages, especially since successful spam campaigns can always be altered to serve a more malicious purpose.
