14 DAY TRIAL // Earlier this week, firefighters in New Jersey, US, carried out a rather peculiar rescue mission. Long story short, they saved the life of a raccoon that got stuck in a tree while searching for food.
The animal's rescuers are convinced that, without their help, the raccoon would have never managed to free itself. Eventually, exhaustion or starvation would have killed it.
How does a raccoon end up stuck in a tree?
As mentioned, the poor animal got in serious trouble while desperate to find some food. Word has it than, in an attempt to reach a tasty-looking nut, it shoved its head inside a hole in a tree.
Just seconds later, the unfortunate raccoon was stuck. Apparently, it might be true that what goes up must come down, but what goes in does not always come out.
Luckily, the animal was spotted by a man who alerted authorities. At the time when firefighters arrived in the area, the raccoon was clearly in distress. It was clawing at the tree and doing its best to free itself.
To save the poor creature, its rescuers used an air chisel to widen the hole keeping it captive. The firefighters explain that, had they tried to simply pull it out, they would have probably injured it.
As soon as the tree hole was widened, the raccoon managed to pull its head out of it. Moments later, the animal was back on the ground, running away from the evil tree that got the best of it, Metro reports.
The raccoon kind of, sort of deserved it
By the looks of it, the nut that the raccoon was trying to reach when it got its head stuck in the tree hole was not just any nut. It was a nut carefully hidden by another animal, most likely a squirrel.
That's right, this little furry creature was looking to steal somebody else's meal. One can only hope that the raccoon has learned its lesson and will from now on keep away from others' snacks and treats.
