Walter VonKoch, Internet Explorer Program Manager, has announced on Microsoft's IEBlog the latest improvements to the RSS platform. VonKoch stated that apart from eventual vulnerabilities
requiring repair, the RSS platform is Application Programming Interface complete, meaning that: " applications written against the Beta 3 API will run unmodified against the final RTM release of the platform."
"Read Feeds with Ease in IE7 Beta 3. We've snuck in some goodies in the feed reading user experience based on Beta 2 feedback. We are feature-complete for feed reading in IE7, but we're still looking for feedback to make tweaks and fixes for the final release," stated another IE7developer describing the Refresh All Feeds feature included in the browser. The characteristic that permits the download engine to refresh all feeds was integrated to ensure that the user is presented only with the latest info, and the IE team has introduced a refresh all function in a context menu that can be accessed through feeds and folders in the Feed List Pane.
Additional support of the updating feeds is delivered via FeedsManager.AsyncSyncAll(). Adding to this are enclosure management features, changes to the feeds signatures and to the namespace.
"Final API changes based on feedback, including proper capitalization of certain properties in the automation/dual interfaces which are used by .NET managed code interop, additional FEEDS_DOWNLOAD_ERROR's, renamed Feed.Id to Feed.LocalId and renamed FeedItem.Id to FeedItem.LocalId," concluded VonKoch.
