The Elder Scrolls Online will aim to be a good video game experience for fans of the Elder Scrolls franchise rather than simply shoehorning the elements of the universe in the structure of the MMO genre.

Paul Sage, who is the creative director working on The Elder Scrolls Online, has told Game Informer that, “You absolutely get that same experience of the world with that distraction-based gameplay where you really get to control your own destiny in how you experience the game.

“I don’t think is much different in an MMO than it is in any other medium, really, any other typical RPG. I think this just gives us more opportunity to make you the hero.”

He added, “When I’m looking at the screen, when the NPCs see me, they see me as the hero, they react to me as the hero. When you’re playing with a group of friends, or even strangers, and you’re a healer, and you heal that guy that’s on his last leg, it sounds silly, but in a way you’re that person’s hero.

“I think that’s a big thing for people, it reinforces that social bond. You get to be a hero amongst your friends.”

The Elder Scrolls MMO will allow players to experience events that take place one thousand years before those of Skyrim, allowing them to choose from three very different factions while exploring most of the areas of Tamriel that they are already familiar with.

The game will feature a wide array of development options for characters and the developers are promising that it will take more than 100 hours in order to reach the level cap.

Nothing has been so far revealed about the combat or dialog mechanics of the new Elder Scrolls game.

The Elder Scrolls Online was officially revealed by Bethesda and ZeniMax Online and the two companies are expecting to launch the game during next year.
