HTC HD2, one of the most appealing mobile phones launched on the market last year with Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system on board, has just received a software update in the UK on the airwaves of O2. Available as ROM Version 1.72.206.3 and intended for O2 only, the new software update is now available for download on HTC's support website.

“An updated ROM is now available for HTC HD2 (O2) users to download. As always, HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience,” the leading mobile phone maker states. Unfortunately, the company does not offer specific information on what the new update brings new into the equation, though it warns that this is a generic software update.

“Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently installed on your device. If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software. To check what version is installed on your device, click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, and note the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version,” the company continues.

Being a generic software update, the new ROM for HD2 will not include specific settings or applications the wireless services provider offered to its customers. At the same time, it should be noted that the update will delete all data on the device, which means that users should perform a backup of all of their personal files on the handset before launching the process.

The update can be performed via a Windows-based computer, with the HD2 connected to it via a USB cable. The battery on the handset should be at at least 50 percent, while applications on the device need to be closed before the update. The new software solution is available for download from HTC's website here. All the necessary info on how to update is also available there.
