To fix HD2's issues with the SMS functionality

Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has just posted a new ROM upgrade for its HTC HD2 mobile phone, one of the hottest devices delivered to the market last year with Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system on board. The new ROM version that HTC made available for its users is 1.66.707.1, and the company says that the new “update delivers fast and reliable SMS messaging.”

As many of you might already know, the HTC HD2 has been plagued with a series of various software issues ever since it arrived on the market, and its SMS functionality alone saw at least two software updates from the handset vendor. Since “keeping in touch has always been very important,” as HTC itself notes, we can only hope that the new ROM upgrade for HD2 will solve any issues users have encountered.

However, we should mention that the new software update is only a generic ROM from HTC, and that those who will install it will lose any “additional software or settings provided by your mobile operator or company.” Users are advised to contact their supplier before performing the update. At the same time, they should also check to see whether their handsets need the new upgrade, which can be done by checking the software version on their HD2, through accessing Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab.

“Please note that this upgrade will erase any data stored on the device. Once you proceed with the upgrade, the system can not be downgraded again. Please back up your data first before upgrading your device,” HTC also reports on its support page. Before proceeding, one should also make sure that the device is connected to a PC via the USB cable, that the necessary software is installed on the computer (ActiveSync on Windows XP or Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista), that all apps on the phone are closed and that the battery of the phone is charged at least at 50 percent.

The new ROM upgrade for the HTC HD2 is available for download from the handset vendor's website here. According to the company, “the update will take up to 30 minutes, DO NOT interrupt the update process, make/receive phone calls, disconnect the device from the PC, or press any buttons until the process has been completed.” All the necessary instructions on the process are available on HTC's support website.
