Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is expected to unveil to the world the next version of its PlayBook OS as soon as next week, during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Rumor
has it that the handset vendor plans on showcasing the platform during an “intimate event” set for Las Vegas on January 10th.

The new PlayBook OS 2.0 has been available for beta testers for the past several months, and is expected to be launched next month.

RIM might also bring the BlackBerry 7 OS to the next week's event, though it's unlikely that new devices will also be launched.

As for the next flavor of RIM's BlackBerry platform, namely OS 10, it is said to be planned for a February unveiling at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
