Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion seems set to make its BlackBerry operating system much more appealing that it is, through enhancing the user interface of the platform.

Proof of that comes from today's announcement regarding the purchase of The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) team, a Swedish UI design company

“Today we are pleased to confirm plans for The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) team to join Research In Motion (RIM),” David Yach, Chief Technology Officer at RIM, notes in a recent post on the mobile phone maker's official blog.

“We’re excited that the TAT team will be joining RIM and bringing their talent to the BlackBerry PlayBook and smartphone platforms,” David Yach continues.

In case there are some of you yet unfamiliar with what The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) is all about, we should note that this was the company to polish the original Android interface (the one that was present on T-Mobile G1).

Of course, this is not the only notable achievement for this company. All in all, the team should prove a great option for making the interface of that QNX-based PlayBook OS shine better. Those who would like to learn more on what the company has to offer should head to its website here.

“For those who don’t know, TAT is renowned for their innovative mobile user interface (UI) designs and has a long history of working with mobile and embedded technology,” the aforementioned blog post reads.

“TAT focuses on delivering great user experiences, from a design, technology, and usability perspective. Their design technology is used today in a variety of industries including the consumer electronics and automotive sectors,” RIM's David Yach continues.

For the time being, however, there are no details available on what this acquisition would mean for the BlackBerry OS. Even so, it can only mean that great things are on their way to RIM's mobile platform, so stay tuned for additional info on the matter.
