Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is gearing up for the release of a major software update for its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet PC, in the form of PlayBook OS 2.0.

The leading handset vendor has been working on the release of this update since last year, and it seems that users are about to get a taste of it.

The update is expected to arrive on devices no later than February 21st, which is less than a week from now. A recent post on N4BB suggests that the update will indeed arrive on that day, even if RIM hasn’t made any official announcements on the matter.

PlayBook OS 2.0 will bring along a nice range of enhancements, including native email, calendar, and contacts apps, better Bridge connectivity, and more. Unfortunately, no BBM will be included in the OS.
