Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is reportedly nearing the release of a beta version 2.1 of its BlackBerry PlayBook OS, with end of May being the expected availability timeframe.

The company has been testing builds of the new platform for quite some time now, and it seems that it is finally set to offer a glimpse at what the OS has to offer.

At the moment, the latest test beta build is said to be 2.1.0.560, yet specific info on what it has to offer hasn’t emerged so far.

However, recent tweets from Michael Clewley, BlackBerry PlayBook Product Manager at RIM, suggest that it won’t be long before all details are provided to users.

“Lots of questions about the #PlayBook 2.1 beta, they will be answered in the blog post when it's available so stay tuned,” he said.
