Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new software update for its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet PC.

Said initially to be set for roll-out as soon as today, it appears that the new platform release, OS 2.1.0.982, will not arrive on devices for a while, CrackBerry reports.

RIM has delayed its launch for unknown reasons, and a new release date is not known at the moment. Previous rumors, however, suggested that September 20 might be the lucky day for PlayBook owners.

Little is known regarding the enhancements that the new Tablet OS 2.1.0.982 will include, yet it’s almost certain that it was meant to bring along BlackBerry Bridge 2.1.

Hopefully, more details on the new firmware will emerge in the not too distant future, so stay tuned to learn the news.
