Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has just added a new country to the list of markets where its BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone is available for purchase, namely the Philippines.

The handset is expected to arrive in the country starting with October 7th, and will become available for purchase via all wireless carriers, as well as via authorized resellers.

This is the slimmest BlackBerry smartphone brought to the market to date, featuring both a touchscreen display, as well as with the popular QWERTY keyboard available on all Bold smartphones.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 also arrives on shelves with a fast 1.2GHz application processor, as well as with support for NFC (Near Field Communications), so that users could pair it with NFC-enabled accessories or read SmartPoster tags with a single tap.

“We are very excited to be bringing the highly-anticipated BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone to the Philippines,” Hastings Singh, vice president, South Asia at RIM, said.

“This powerful new smartphone offers a best-in-class mobile communications experience together with faster browsing, richer multimedia and improved overall performance.”

The new BlackBerry Bold 9900 has been crafted from premium materials and also packs appealing software, the handset vendor announced.

The handset packs WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS receiver, a 5MP camera on the back, microSD memory card slot, and other features as well.

The handset is based on RIM's new BlackBerry 7 operating system, and offers faster web browsing with HTML5 support, as well as better communication capabilities and overall performance levels.

“BlackBerry 7, the operating system for the new BlackBerry Bold 9900, introduces a next generation BlackBerry browser with a significantly faster, more fluid web browsing experience that is among the best in the industry,” the handset vendor notes.

“Additional enhancements to this next generation BlackBerry browser have also optimized zooming and panning for smoother web navigation and optimized HTML5 performance for incredible gaming and video experiences.”
