Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has just announced the availability of a new tool for developers interested in the building of applications for the BlackBerry platform, namely the BlackBerry Analytics SDK.

This software was meant at offering developers the possibility to learn more on users' behavior and on what they could do to retail current users and attract more of them.

In other worlds, the new BlackBerry Analytics SDK will enable them capture and aggregate information about application usage.

The new software was made available in a beta flavor at the moment, and all developers of BlackBerry applications can download it for free.

“The free Analytics Service Beta Powered by Webtrends helps you improve your end user experience, optimize your apps and know (not guess) where to invest your resources to increase your ROI,” RIM explains on its website.

“With the reports and metrics available with the Analytics Service Beta, you can find out if your app is being used the way it was designed to be used.

“You can also identify user behavior and segments to discover new business opportunities and measure how much your app is being used on different technology versions and in different locations,” the company continues.

The Analytics Service Beta should provide developers with all of the tools they need to get started on this, including an SDK, developer documents and a web-based reporting interface.

The tool is easy to use, and enables developers enable basic measurements such as screen views, sessions, unique users, and more, all with just a few lines of code. These reports would become available for developers instantly, the handset vendor continues.

“Capturing and aggregating information about application usage is what analytics is all about, and with the beta release of the BlackBerry Analytics SDK, it is surprisingly simple to get good information to help answer those questions,” the company notes in a recent post on the developer blog.

The BlackBerry Analytics SDK is available for download from Softpedia too, via this link.
