Following the release of the first batch of BlackBerry 7 smartphones, Research in Motion launches the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint.

Touted the most advanced mobile SharePoint solution on the market, the BlackBerry Client application is aimed at enterprise and government customers and offers a secure and user friendly mobile experience, the developer claims.

BlackBerry smartphone users will be able to connect to SharePoint servers via BlackBerry Enterprise Server software.

BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint is fully integrated within the features of the mobile operating system, including browser, calendar, email, as well as the Universal Search.

Our enterprise and government customers asked us to bring a highly refined mobile experience to SharePoint and we are delivering that today with the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint,” said Alan Panezic, Vice President, Enterprise Product Management and Marketing at Research In Motion.

In addition, users will be able to edit Microsoft Office documents using the pre-installed Documents To Go application.

The application also provides access to blogs, Wikis and lists, along with the ability to update from a BlackBerry smartphone.

With the Universal Search tool, users can make content searches on multiple SharePoint sites directly from their BlackBerry smartphone.

In a world of continuous connectivity, businesses and governments require products, services and information faster and more reliably than ever before. The BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint helps to address the needs of today's mobile workforce with new tools and mobile applications to enable collaboration and productivity,” said Victor Garcia, Chief Technology Officer at HP Canada.

According to RIM, a number of important companies, as well as government customers plan to take advantage of the BlackBerry Client for Microsoft SharePoint features in the next few weeks.

The application is now available for download in more than 25 countries in over six languages.
