Research in Motion has finally unveiled the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones, several months after they leaked in the wild

Even though there is nothing new in terms of hardware and software from what we already knew, it appears that both smartphones will be positioned at the top of the food chain.

Both BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones run the newly announced Blackberry 7 OS and seems to be more appealing when it comes to design.

Although they are both built in the traditional Blackberry-esque form factor, the premium materials and finishes make these models stand out.

The devices have a lustrous exterior with a brushed stainless steel frame and a high-gloss glass-weave battery cover. They are the thinnest BlackBerry smartphones yet, at only 10.5mm.

The new BlackBerry Bold smartphones and BlackBerry 7 OS are inspired by millions of customers around the world who want the ultimate combination of performance, functionality and style,” said Mike Lazaridis, president and co-CEO, Research In Motion.

These fully-loaded and beautifully crafted smartphones offer a highly refined user experience with blazingly fast performance, a brilliant touch screen and an outstanding typing experience.”

Equipped with 1.2 GHz processors, 2.8-inch (480 x 640 pixels resolution) Liquid Graphics touch screen and support for high speed 4G/HSPA+ networks, Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones are designed for high performance.

According to the manufacturer, the Liquid Graphics touch screen delivers fast, smooth performance for highly responsive touch-based navigation, web browsing, pictures, video and graphics intensive games.

The new technology provides up to 60 frames-per-second performance with instant UI response. In addition, the smartphones feature displays with a 287 dpi to deliver crisp, stunning visuals.

While the 9900 supports HSPA+ connectivity, the 9930 features full support for CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and HSPA+ global roaming on GSM/UMTS networks. In addition, both Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones include built-in support for NFC (Near Field Communications).

Augmented reality is another feature provided by both BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones thanks to the built-in compass (magnetometer), which also supports location-based services.

Each of the smartphone feature a 5-megapixel camera with support for 720p HD video recording and playback. They are both delivered with 768 MB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, microSD slot card for memory expansion (up to 32GB) and dual band Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity.

RIM has yet to disclose the release date and pricing of the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 smartphones, which are expected to be available from carriers around the world beginning this summer.
