According to some information provided a while ago, US wireless carrier Verizon Wireless was to complete its business phone lineup with a brand-new Blackberry handset, the 8830 (previously known as the Cyclone), a CDMA/GSM 'World Edition' device.

Recently Verizon has confirmed this and officially announced that it will be making the Blackberry 8830 available starting the 14th of May through its business units as well as online, while consumers will have to wait until the handset hits the shops on the 28th during the same month.

This is extremely good news for all of Verizon's customers that are known to always complain about the wireless carrier's lack of new products. According to Gizmodo, the Blackberry 8830 measures 2.6 x 4.9 x 0.55 inches and weighs 4.6 oz. The network auto-selection feature it includes will allow the device to search for the first available network. In the case of US customers the device will use CDMA, but while traveling abroad, as the handset will not be able to find a CDMA network it will switch to GSM.

This will only work for GSM networks with which Verizon has a roaming deal. This is Verizon's announcement : "Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, and Research In Motion, a global leader in wireless innovation, announced the first Global CDMA/GSM BlackBerry, the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone, will be available on May 14 through Verizon Wireless business sales channels and in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores on May 28. "

The device is more of an upgrade for the already available 8800 and should become available with a price tag of around $400, or as little as $200 for customers that sign up for both voice and data services on a two-year agreement.
