RAGE is one of the big launches of the fall season, all the more important because of the fact that it is the debut of the all new id Tech 5 game engine, and a lot of people wondered whether the new technology and the new game might arrive on the Nintendo Wii.

But speaking to IGN during QuakeCon Todd Hollenshead, who is the Chief Executive Officer of id Software, has said, “For RAGE, as much as Nintendo might not like to hear this, id Tech 5 is too much tech for the Wii. We’re not doing a crappy version of RAGE on the Wii.”

The company leader then moved on to the subject of the Wii U, the newly announced device from Nintendo, and stated, “I haven’t really had a chance to sit down with Carmack about it, because it’s his opinion that matters. From what Nintendo is saying, it looks interesting, but it still remains to be seen how it fits within how id Tech 5 would run on it, is the audience right for us to develop games on that platform.”

When the Wii U home console was officially unveiled at E3 2011 Nintendo made a lot of noise about the fact that it was reaching parity in terms of graphics power with the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

The company said that a lot developers were interested in bringing their first person shooter, which are traditionally graphics intensive, to the Wii U.

The company showed a number of games in clip sequences but after the show some have said that the games, while good looking, were actually running on other consoles.

The main feature of the new Wii U is an improved controller, which includes analog controls, a touch screen and motion controls.

RAGE will be launched during early October on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
