The development team at id Software that has created the RAGE universe says the franchise is not dead and that it has some ideas about future content linked to it.

Tim Willits, the co-founder of the company, is quoted by Joystiq as saying during the Quake Con event that, "The franchise is not dead. We’re not doing anything immediately with it, but when I designed the universe, I designed it in such a way that it would be easy to step back into. I’m still proud that we did something that was different."

The developer says that the engine created specifically for RAGE, id Tech 5, is flexible and can be easily upgraded in order to power future game experiences.

id Software is also watching the development of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 and that probably means that the next RAGE title will be launched on the new devices from Microsoft and Sony.
