Aspyr Media has announced the release of RAGE: Campaign Edition for Mac OS X. Developed by id Software, the creators of DOOM and QUAKE, RAGE is a stunning first-person shooter set in the future, after an asteroid impacts Earth.

“You emerge into this vast wasteland to discover humanity working to rebuild itself against such forces as bandit gangs, mutants, and the Authority – an oppressive government regime that has a special interest in you in particular,” reads the Mac App Store description.

The title boasts some impressive graphics powered by the famous id Tech 5 technology.

RAGE: Campaign Edition has players fending off foes with a flurry of exotic weapons and special items. You get to mess around with stuff like Wingsticks, personal turrets, sentry bots, and remote-controlled bomb cars.

The Mac version features bonus equipment that was formerly exclusive to the RAGE Anarchy Edition. These items include a Double Barrel Shotgun, the Rat Rod Buggy, Fists of RAGE, and Crimson Elite Armor.

The Wasteland Sewers Missions act like a bonus, bringing “additional mutant blasting gameplay and looting opportunities,” according to Aspyr.   “Aspyr has been a great partner, bringing id Software’s games to the Mac platform for years,” said Todd Hollenshead, President of id Software. “We’ve worked closely with them again to offer the amazing graphics and intense combat that RAGE is famous for to Mac gamers.”

But those crisp graphics don’t come without a cost. If you want to run RAGE “with satisfactory performance,” you’ll need at least 2.4 GHz CPU Speed, 4 GB RAM, and one of the following graphics cards: (ATI): Radeon HD 3870; (NVidia): GeForce 8800 | 256 MB VRam.

You’ll also need a lot of free disk space to install the game - some 25 GB to be precise. The game runs on Mac OS X 10.7.2 or later (Snow Leopard not supported), and costs $39.99 (31.99 EUR).
