R&B singer R. Kelly grabbed the No. 1 spot on the U.S. pop albums chart Wednesday with his latest album, "TP. 3 Reloaded". The album sold 490,500 copies in the week ended July 10, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
R. Kelly was followed by Elliott's "The Cookbook" (Goldmine/Atlantic) with 176,000 copies. The album knocked Coldplay's "X&Y to No. 3, while Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" remained at No. 4 behind a 116,000-unit week. The album is fast approaching the 2 1/2-million mark.
R. Kelly, born Robert Sylvester Kelly on January 8, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois, found international acclaim in the 1990s for his diverse talents as a singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and musician.
His albums were sold in more than 32 million copies only in the US. The singer took three Emmy Awards Best R&B Song, Best R&B Male Vocal Performance and Best Original Song from A Soundtrack for "I Believe I Can Fly".
