Quora, a service that can be most easily described as Wikipedia-Ehanced, has reached Apple’s iOS platforms in the form of a dedicated application that provides great answers on a wide range of topics, including technology, movies, music, travel, health, law and lots more.

The developers acknowledge in a blog post that “Everyone has questions about the world around them, and you're often not near a computer when that moment strikes you.”

“Today we're taking the first step in building a first-class mobile experience for Quora with the announcement of our native app for iPhone and iPod touch,” reads an entry signed Anne K. Halsall, Quora product designer.

The iPhone version of Quora offers access to some of the smartest people in the world, according to the entire team at Quora, Inc.

The people who contribute to its database “have deep expertise and include authoritative leaders in dozens of fields,” allowing regular users to search for questions in over 60,000 topics, including location-based queries.

Some examples include:

* Local tips: What are some unusual, fun things to do in New York City? * Inside scoop: What is it like to be a screenwriter in Hollywood? * Life advice: What important life advice are people not generally told about? * Current events: Why did the stock market drop so rapidly in early August 2011? * Business info: How much does Netflix spend on postage each year?

Halsall notes that the Quora team that handled iOS development made existing features like Shuffle even better. Shuffle can be found at the bottom of the feed.

“It's perfect for surfacing even more great content when you're stuck at a bus stop and looking for something to read,” Halsall said.

The Quora app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad (though it’s not native on the tablet format) and requires iOS 4.0 or later.
