You can set your resolution all the way up to 3840 x 2400 on a standard display

If you’re looking for a way to easily switch between resolutions on your Mac, go ahead and download QuickRes from the people at Inertiactive. Their software can blow your resolution up to a whopping 3840 x 2400.

Granted, QuickRes won’t increase the pixel count on your Mac, so don’t fantasize about using this app to turn your beat up MacBook into a Retina display model.

However, “With the 15 inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, you can set your resolution all the way up to an extreme 3840 x 2400,” according to the developers. That can be accomplished with the paid version of the app, which sells for $1.99 / €1.79 in the Mac App Store. You can also grab the free version from the link I’ve supplied above.

The free version doesn’t include HiDPI support for Retina displays, or the ability to go back and forth between Retina and native resolutions in just one click.

QuickRes 3.3 was released this weekend with fixes for notification centering and other stuff. It also adds Japanese language support.
