Those still fond of the old QuickTime Player can continue using it in Snow Leopard

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard includes QuickTime X, an updated version of the Apple QuickTime Player, both inside and outside. It offers easy media sharing, and flexible recording capabilities, but lacks some of the features enjoyed by users of QuickTime 7 and QuickTime 7 Pro, such as exporting options and support for various media formats.

In case you’ve already got a license to use the Pro version of QuickTime but have also upgraded to Snow Leopard, QuickTime Player 7 is automatically installed in your Utilities folder during the Mac OS X v10.6 installation process. QuickTime Player 7 recognizes your valid registration code and enables QuickTime Pro functionality.

If you didn’t have the software before upgrading to OS X 10.6, but want to install it now, a Snow Leopard-compatible version of QuickTime Player 7 is also available for use with older media or with existing AppleScript-based workflows. To install the QuickTime Player 7 from the Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD, you must follow these steps:

1- Insert your Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Install DVD. 2- Open the Optional Installs folder and double-click "Optional Installs.mpkg." 3- Select the QuickTime 7 option and click Continue. 4- QuickTime Player 7 will be installed in your Utilities folder.

If, by any chance, you don’t have the Snow Leopard install DVD around, you can manually download the piece of software from Apple (provided that you have an Internet connection). Alternately, if you double-click any media that requires QuickTime Player 7 and OS X asks if you want to download it from Apple, go with this method. You will also be able to use QuickTime 7 and QuickTime X side by side.

Also noteworthy is that, if you need to manually enter your QuickTime 7 Pro registration code, all you have to do is launch the app, click the QuickTime Player 7 menu and choose Registration. Here, you can enter your QuickTime 7 Pro registration code and activate your license. QuickTime X does not require a registration code.
