Rayman Legends has had a troubled development cycle as while it was supposed to be a Nintendo Wii U exclusive and appeared last year, it was pushed back until the end of August and received versions for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and even the PS Vita, besides the Wii U.

After launching not one but two demos for Rayman Legends on the Nintendo console, Ubisoft has now unleashed a free trial of the game on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Does the puzzle platformer make a great transition onto regular consoles or should fans stick with the Wii U for the best experience? Let's have a quick look.

The Rayman Legends demo on PS3 kicks off with the regular Teensies in Trouble level, which was already featured in the Wii U demos, but also features A Toad Story and the music-themed stage Black Betty.

Once you complete Teensies in Trouble, you unlock the special Invasion mode version of the level, which tasks players with running through a heavily modified edition of it in a certain time. Once you complete that, you also get the Inversion edition of A Toad Story.

Rayman Legends looks as great or even a bit better on the PS3 than on the Wii U, as Ubisoft managed to make the hand-crafted visuals stand out even more on the Sony console.

Sadly, the gameplay isn't the same, especially when it comes to Teensies in Trouble, as players need to control Murfy, a fifth character, which on the Wii U is maneuvered using the GamePad's touchscreen. On the PS3, however, players need to press the Left and Right Shoulder buttons, which proves a bit tricky while trying to also control Rayman using the face buttons and the analog sticks.

While this isn't a dealbreaker, as not all stages require Murfy's intervention, it does make the Wii U edition of Rayman Legends the preferred way to experience the game.

Rayman Legends is out on August 30, in Europe, and September 3, in North America, for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita, and Wii U.
