Nostalgia needs to be powerful to draw anyone to this experience

GoldenEye 007 Reloaded is a Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 port or a remake which was originally delivered on the Nintendo Wii last year, based on the GoldenEye game that a lot of players fondly remember from the good old days of the Nintendo 64.

This, added to the fact that publishing was handled by Activision, should tell any discerning player a lot about what one can expect to get out of this package.

James Bond, in his Daniel Craig incarnation (am I the only one who is missing the suave charm of Pierce Brosnan and believes the current Bond is a little thuggish), needs to fight his way through waves of identical enemies in a slew of exotic locales in order to stop someone (hint: you know him well) from a plan which involves a lot of imagination, money and potential world destruction.

The actual gameplay is pretty unimpressive because this is basically a shooting gallery with some stealth bits thrown in here and there, a game where the aim quickly snaps to an enemy so that the player can take him down and where the radar makes detection of threats almost too easy.

The developers claim that the graphics are upgraded when compared to the Wii and, while the game runs at 720p resolution, it never really looks like something that is part of the same generation as Battlefield 3 or RAGE or even Blood Stone, the latest non-remake James Bond video game.

Fans of the character and/or of the Nintendo 64 experience will probably find much more to enjoy in the multiplayer side of the game, where up to 16 gamers can join matches that use the characters from the single player campaign but also villains from the Bond universe.

When compared to the Wii version the game also introduces MI6 missions, designed to test the limits of the player, and support for the PlayStation Move on the PS3 from Sony.

Here's a clip that shows how GoldenEye 007 Reloaded looks in action:
