An interesting turn-based title with some cool innovative ideas

Endless Legend is a 4X fantasy-powered video game created by Amplitude Studios that is currently in Early Access and allows gamers to try and dominate the world of Auriga using the mechanics of the turn-based strategy genre.

Initially, the entire experience seems heavily inspired by titles like Civilization V and Warlock, but the developers have managed to introduce some very cool and unique mechanics while creating a game world that has cool lore and interesting quest design.

At first, the player has one settler, one hero and a few military units, and the world around him is filled with both opportunity and dread.

In classic 4X fashion, a civilization needs to expand, to explore ruins, to research tech and to upgrade its heroes in order to survive, and the main concepts that underpin Endless Legend should be instantly familiar to most strategy fans.

But the developers at Amplitude layer on a range of other ideas, with a focus on heroes, who are great leaders of armies but can also boost cities they are stationed in.

They can gain experience and equip new items to improve their abilities, and the game delivers a quest system that guides the players around the map, encouraging them to explore and to interact with locations and races.

When enemies are encountered, Endless Legend does a neat trick and transforms the strategic map into a tactical one, allowing the players to position their troops and to issue instructions before simultaneous turns are played.

The system is cool and simple, but it does have some depth and creates a cool way of resolving conflict that other similar titles lack.

All the systems work together well, and there are some cool touches linked to empire management, research and unit development.

Amplitude has also created a complex world, with a lot of lore to explore, and it suggests that a catastrophe is approaching and that players will need to find a way to deal with it.

Endless Legend is engaging and fun to play, though it can seem a little slow at times, and the challenge is different for each new match because all content is procedurally generated by the engine.

The title also looks great, with bright colors that manage to contrast with the somewhat depressing nature of the universe it creates, and the sound design also seems solid.

Take a look at Endless Legend in action below, but keep in mind that the game is still in development and that some parts of what you see might change before the game is officially launched.
