Earlier this year the people of Queensland, Australia, were hit hard by Cyclone Yasi and the subsequent floods. Tens of towns and thousands of people were affected.
But it's during times like this that heroes are made, like a helicopter rescue team that ended up saving 43 people stranded during the floods.
The reason why any of this has anything to do with Google is that the team ended up using Google Maps to locate some of those in need of rescue.
The team was given street addresses of where the people in need of help were, but helicopters don't really have turn-by-turn GPS navigation.
Instead, they loaded Google Maps on a phone they had with them, punched in the address and, thanks to the built-in GPS, had a direct route to the location of those stranded.
It's easy to see why this would make a
great search story for Google's latest series of ads which focus on the way its products help people do extraordinary things.
