Activision has announced that its Guitar Hero franchise will be getting downloadable content from some well-known bands during the summer, the highlights being rock legends Queen, followed by more metal offerings in Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold and a debut to the series for Shinedown, a less known but still compelling act.
The company is making it clear that the new songs are fully compatible with the main Guitar Hero series, with the Band Hero spinoff, and that players will also be able to use them in the upcoming
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, the more narrative-driven game set to arrive in the fall.
Queen is coming back to Guitar Hero with three new tracks. Under the name Queen 2 Track Pack, gamers will be able to download “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, “Killer Queen” and “Somebody To Love”. Avenged Sevenfold will bring their song pack on July 13, before they debut on the main game disk in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. Players will be able to get three singles: “Afterlife”, “Almost Easy” and “Scream”, all taken from their fourth studio album. Disturbed is bringing its tracks in on July 20, complete with hits like “Down With The Sickness”, “Stricken” and “Indestructible”. Shinedown will make its debut on July 27, with songs like “Devour”, “Second Chance” and “Sound of Madness”.
Each of the track packs mentioned above can be used on all the home consoles the
Guitar Hero series is present. Those who are interested in playing them on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft need to pay 440 Microsoft Points for each, those gaming on the Nintendo Wii will have to give up 550 Wii Points, while those getting them on the PlayStation 3 from Sony need to pay 5 dollars. Gamers who are only interested in one of the songs in the pack can buy them separately for a slightly higher price.
