Just a few days ago, Dell was said to be interested in buying Palm. Since the company had discontinued its Axim Pocket PC line and rumor had it that it was planning to partner with some other company for releasing a new smartphone later this year, several conclusions were drawn and people started expecting Dell's acquisition of the Treo manufacturer. Reportedly, Dell would be interested in Palm due to the company's experience in manufacturing smartphones.

Recently, a new rumor has surfaced, completely contradicting the first one and now, Quanta Computer is apparently developing a new PDA handset for Dell, which should become available on the market in the fourth quarter of this year.

According to DigiTimes, the DELL PDA handset project would be dubbed 'Fly' and include a model that would run Windows Mobile 6 Professional platform and support HSDPA. Following the features that other devices of this type released on the market include, it should also come equipped with a QWERTY keyboard, although the details regarding its spec sheet are yet unknown.

Just in the case of the 'Dell buying Palm' rumor, Quanta cooking up a new smartphone for Dell is quite possible, but still a rumor. Although Quanta cooking up a new smartphone for Dell is quite possible, it's still just a rumor yet. Actually, it probably all started because Quanta is the biggest notebook supplier for Dell and at the same time actively developing products for the PDA and 3G mobile phone market, supplying handsets for HP and O2.

Since the company makes phones and is working with Dell already, if Dell were in fact preparing to release a new product, Quanta would be the best choice. Reportedly, the Quanta-developed handset is expected to mark Dell's venture into the mobile device market and a return to the PDA market.
