Despite of the recent focus on downloadable content for all big video game releases, one developer believes that the quality of a title is more important than delivering extra content after launch.

Christofer Sundberg, who is the leader of Avalanche Studios, told Eurogamer that, “DLC is not needed to keep players engaged if the game is well executed.”

He added, “We create a game allowing players to properly explore and have fun and not focusing so much on the actual end goal of the game.”

DLC was launched for the open-world Just Cause 2, but it did not impact the game too much because there was enough gameplay value to be found in the mechanics and the areas that the Avalanche team introduced in the core release.

At the moment, Avalanche is working on three unannounced projects, one of which is probably a new title in the Just Cause series, while another is an open-world title using a new intellectual property.
