Qualcomm and ooVoo have recently announced that they have signed a partnership to provide high definition video chat for various mobile platforms

Following ooVoo's launch of the first 4G mobile video chat service in December 2010, the partnership is trying to combine Qualcomm's hardware codec capability and ooVoo's innovation in mobile video chat software.

“We’re delighted to work in tandem with Qualcomm to deliver the best mobile video conference in the market place,” said Philippe Schwartz, CEO at ooVoo.

“ooVoo provides the best-in-class mobile video chat anywhere, anytime. Our game-changing technology allows users to experience high quality, multi-device and multi-party video chat in ways that is not available with other services,” added Schwartz.

The companies will demonstrate first multi-party, VGA high resolution mobile video chat solution on a production Android smartphone device, at CES 2011.

Both companies hope to deliver four times the quality in mobile video chat while reducing the device power and CPU consumption by half.

ooVoo's 4G mobile service allows up to six users to take part on a video call simultaneously, regardless of the compatible platforms they are using, PC, Mac or Android.

The company claims that the video call does not lose its quality, even if all three supported platforms are engaged simultaneously.

“Not only is ooVoo bringing essential features to the mobile video chat marketplace that have been missing until now, but we’ve also expanded our already famous high quality video to the world of mobile communication,” said Philippe Schwartz, CEO of ooVoo.

As a side note, ooVoo Mobile directly competes with Qik, which offers the same kind of service.

However, while Qik has one-to-one video chat, ooVoo Mobile connects 6 people in a single chat. OoVoo also claims that, unlike its own service, Qik has some pixelation and synch issues.
