On Thursday, leading wireless solutions provider Qualcomm announced that it was working closely with mobile software technology providers all around the world for optimizing their solutions for the next-generation Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP) operating system from the company. The partnership is focused on a series of key software components, including Java virtual machines, device management, browsers, multimedia, instant messaging, and calendar applications, the company added.

According to Qualcomm, all of these software solutions are to be pre-integrated with the Brew MP, which will also enable developers to deliver their applications to mobile phone makers before the handsets come to the market. The company underlines the fact that the new solutions are also meant to reduce the time to market of new applications, while also enabling cost savings. In addition, Qualcomm stated that the first mobile phones based on the platform are expected to arrive on the market in early 2010.

Qualcomm is working closely with key software technology providers in advance of commercial launches to optimize their solutions for devices running Brew Mobile Platform,” said Jason Kenagy, vice president of product management for Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. “This effort includes optimization of target devices and pre-distribution of these products to device makers. Through this collaborative effort, Qualcomm and its software providers will help device makers achieve faster time-to-market and ease of development.”

The partnership announced today by Qualcomm is aimed at core mobile software applications and technology. The area would include browsers and Java programming support, as well as solutions for mobile social networking, email, and messaging. Other aspects, including graphics engines, multimedia, device management, location-based services, and more, are also taken into consideration, the company added. Some of the key partners for the Brew MP are: Aplix, Bitstream, Comviva, Monotype Imaging, Novarra, PDAger, PixSense, Scanbuy Inc., SEVEN Networks Inc., Yappa, and UCweb.

"Delivering standards-based, cross-platform solutions that manage firmware, applications and devices over the air continues to be our strategy," said Yoram Salinger, CEO of Red Bend Software. "The modular design of our vDirect Mobile device management software supports the modular approach of Brew MP to be optimized for all device tiers. Through this collaboration, Qualcomm and Red Bend are enabling manufacturers and operators to bring differentiated devices to market faster and more cost effectively."
