Company representative says mobile software ecosystem is now moving to 64-bit

Qualcomm Chief Marketing Officer Anand Chandrasekher was recently quoted as saying that Apple’s A7 chip gave iPhone 5s users “zero benefit,” calling Apple’s 64-bit marketing a “gimmick.”

The chip maker, which has been doing business with Apple for years, is now backtracking on that statement made by Chandrasekher, offering the IDG News Service a bit of clarification on the matter.

“The comments made by Anand Chandrasekher, Qualcomm CMO, about 64-bit computing were inaccurate,” a Qualcomm spokesperson said.

“The mobile hardware and software ecosystem is already moving in the direction of 64-bit; and, the evolution to 64-bit brings desktop class capabilities and user experiences to mobile, as well as enabling mobile processors and software to run new classes of computing devices.”

Jumping the gun like that isn’t good for business when you’re in bed with Apple, a company that relies heavily on marketing the key advantages that its products have over competitors’ products. I for one am baffled at the short-sighted remark made by Chandrasekher. Be it true or not.
