Announced back in November, Qualcomm presented its new Snapdragon 805 image processor at CES 2014. The new chip will be used in future high-end smartphones and tablets beginning May this year.

Snapdragon 805 comes as a step up in the company's lineup and delivers a few interesting features aimed at camera enthusiasts out there, including the ability to capture the entire light field, just as Lytro cameras.

In a recent interview for Techcrunch, a Qualcomm representative demoed the capabilities of the company's new Snapdragon 805 image processor, including the new Lytro-like feature called UV Focus.

The new technology allows Qualcomm's chip to capture multiple photos in a very short period of time, which will be fused together to create an image with an incredible depth of field that keeps everything in focus.

Moreover, this technology also gives you the possibility to refocus your photo after it has been taken, just like Lytro cameras do.

Another great feature presented at CES was Chroma Flash, which will improve photo quality in low-light conditions when the use of a flash is necessary. Chroma Flash will automatically correct lighting and exposure, giving you more saturated colors and eliminating the possibility of getting washed out photos.

“The Snapdragon 805 processor can improve the quality of flash photography by almost simultaneously taking a flash and a non-flash version of the same subject matter and combining the 2 images in the most optimal way,” notes the manufacturer in the video description.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 comes with increased bandwidth, support for 25.6GB/s, and up to 40 percent increased performance in comparison with previous Snapdragon image processors.

Recently, the company announced that devices powered by the new Snapdragon 805 processor would hit shelves starting May this year, but it did not mention which devices would integrate the new chip.
