The man won't be leaving Qualcomm for Microsoft after all

The year is almost over, but Qualcomm thinks this is a perfect time for a management change, especially with the annual shareholder meeting coming in three months.

Long story short, current president and chief operating officer of Qualcomm incorporated is being promoted to the position of CEO, or chief executive officer.

Basically, he's becoming the big boss of the company, which happens to be the world's greatest maker of wireless chips.

Qualcomm also makes many of the mobile CPUs found in phones and tablets, and other ICs. And much of that market share is owed to Mollenkopf's actions as COO.

Qualcomm will hold an annual financial meeting on March 4, 2014. On that day, the transition from Paul Jacobs (who will remain a member of the board of directors) to the new CEO will be completed.
