QuakeWars for Linux to Be Released Soon

The Splash Damage team, which deals with developing the famous Quake Wars: Enemy Territory game, has recently stated that the game will enjoy also Linux support soon after the Windows release.

According to them, a Linux port does not sound as a
complicated process, as the game's engine is running on OpenGL. Members of the Splash team also said that both Nvidia and ATI are interested in bringing their contribution to the creation of this Linux supported release.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is known to have won the Game Critics Award for Best Online Multiplayer at E3 2006. The game is a first-person shooter computer game and is the follow-up to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. The game's universe is resembling very much that from Quake II and Quake 4. After Quake III Arena this would be the second multiplayer-only game in the Quake series. Quake Wars will feature similar gameplay to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, but with the addition of controllable vehicles and aircraft, asymmetric teams, much larger maps and the option of computer-controlled bots.

Enemy Territory is a class-based game featuring two opposing teams. There is the GDF (Global Defense Force - the humans) in one camp, and the Strogg (an alien race invading Earth) in the other camp. For each side there are five classes and while these classes are essentially the same on both sides, there are small variations in the way they perform. The classes of Global Defense Force consist of Field Ops, Covert Ops, Medic, Soldier, and Engineer. The Stroggs have an Oppressor, Technician, Aggressor, Infiltrator and Constructor.

A player's task in this game is either to capture enemy territory by completing objectives, or defending some objectives for a specified amount of time and each side will alternate between attacking and defending. In addition to the overall mission, there are also some sub-missions available for each map, such as destroying an obstacle to make progression easier.
