John Carmack, the creator of the Doom series and the man behind id Software, has revealed that he wanted to get the free-to-play Quake Live shooter onto the Steam digital distribution service in order to become more popular, but Zenimax, the company that recently bought id, didn't consider it a priority.

John Carmack recently announced that he was leaving id Software to better take care of his new role at Oculus Rift.

Recently, he confirmed a rather interesting detail about Quake Live, the free-to-play multiplayer title that's still quite popular on PC.

According to his Twitter account, via NeoGAF, he’s been wanting to bring Quake Live to the Steam service for "the last couple of years" but id Software owner Zenimax didn't consider this a priority for the studio.

As a result, Quake Live is still available just as a browser game, without any support from a digital distribution service.
