Quake Live, the still popular first-person shooter made by id Software many years ago, is getting a new lease on life as publisher Bethesda has revealed that it's going to bring the online game onto the Steam platform this summer.

Quake Live is a staple of the competitive online shooter market, proving that old school experiences can still be popular even if developer id Software doesn't really have the time to properly support the experience.

Now, however, at QuakeCon 2014, Bethesda and id have revealed that they're bringing Quake Live onto the Steam platform this summer and that a major update will be released at the same time that's designed to make sweeping changes to the experience.

Apparently id wants new players to have a smoother entry into the first-person shooter but it's not ready to share actual details just yet.

"Today we are thrilled to announce that we are bringing Quake Live to Steam. Upon release, players will have the option of porting their Quake Live account to their Steam account, allowing you to play and update the game entirely through the Steam interface. We will also be supporting subscriptions through Steam, in 2 and 12 month increments, which can be paid with any payment method currently supported through Steam," the studio said on its forums.

Expect to hear a concrete release date for Quake Live on Steam soon enough.
